BOOK ONE: LANI: CAPTIVE WOMAN.

Her name, Keopuolani, meant The Gathering of the Clouds of Heaven. Her father, King Kiwalao of Hawaii, called her Lani—Heaven. He and his queen, Lilia, believed Lani was a special gift from heaven. But in 1778, when Lani was born, they gave her to the king’s mother, Kalola. “You care for her,” the king said. “It’s the way of our ancestors.”

When she became queen, Lani chose a different way. and she paid a big price!

Daniel is a writer and indie documentarian with a background in cultural anthropology and studio art. His documentaries and GracebyGod videos are on Youtube. His all-time favorite book is the Bible. He believes the Bible is the inspired, inerrant, and infallible Word of God and has the last say on all other worldviews. Two of his favorite verses come from the New Testament book Colossians. “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him” and “See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ.” Daniel is happily-married with three children. He lives with his wife, daughter, two cats and a pugnacious dog in Carson, California.

June loves history, particularly ancient ones. fter college, she taught elementary school for a few years then transitioned into community work. Presently, she is executive director for the Office of Samoan Affairs (formerly the National Office). One of the reasons she joined Dan on KIN Publications is her concern about the kinds of children's books that are now available in public (and sometimes Christian) schools that promote secular humanistic worldviews and ideology. Because KIN is a husband-wife operation, she takes time from her history-book reading and TV viewing to talk with our young branding and marketing expert (Alo Coleman) to find ways to promote our books. June’s favorite book is, of course, the Bible. She reads it early in the morning (after she feeds her stray cats in our backyard) and before she goes to bed.

Gian is our inspiration for the page GracebyGod. That's what Gian means. He and our adopted grandchildren, Spiki and Sparrow Ainuu, are why we revived KIN Publications. Dan started it back in the mid 80s while working as freelance writer and graphic designer for several printers and publishers. Then the company went on a long hiatus, The main reason for its revival is to produce children’s books that honor God and promote our Christian faith. With the rise in secular and anti-Christian books, we felt a burden to create books with a Christian worldview to help our little ones and other children see the beauty of God's Word and how it can strengthen them in early walk with Jesus. The Christian worldview, if you take time to study it, is amazing! It stands alone and uniquely as God's answer to all of man’s problems.
